FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I place an order?

Our phone lines may be busy from time to time. It's best to forward all orders or questions to info@aboutspace.net.au and our team will get back to you.

What is the lead time for products in stock?

Products that are in stock have a three to seven day lead time for collection from our Melbourne showrooms, or a three to seven day lead time, plus delivery time to all other locations.. Orders must have a minimum 30% deposit paid before they leave the warehouse. Furniture items are ordered from various suppliers with varying lead times.

What is the lead time for products out of stock?

If products are out of stock, lead time to our showroom can be up to 12 weeks. Please contact the showroom to confirm stock quantities and lead times.

Do you custom-make lighting?

Yes! A number of our pendants have many custom options. We can also create products based on your designs. You can email info@aboutspace.net.au or come into the showroom for a consultation.

Can you put together a quote?

Yes. Email info@aboutspace.net.au to request a quote. Once we receive your request, we’ll put together the quote. Please provide your name, number, which lights you are interested in, how many, globe requirements, and freight address (if required)

Do you sell globes?

We have a range of varying globes available. Many of our pendants do not include globes, but we offer a variety for you to choose from. Please refer to the specifications for globe requirements. If our light doesn’t come with inbuilt LED, then we will have and LED globe suitable for you.

How do I know it’s time to pick up my order?

You’ll receive a call or sms when your items are available for pick up from the showroom. Pick up is from Monday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, or on Sundays by prior arrangement only.

Can I organise delivery?

To organise freight, we require an exact order and delivery address. Please ensure that there’s someone available to receive and sign for the goods. Freight charges are dependent on the quantity, weight and size of boxes, and the distance to travel. Deliveries cannot be made to P.O. Box addresses.

Do you offer electrical installation service?

Unfortunately not. We recommend arranging a qualified electrician for the installation of any light fittings. Please also make sure to inspect your purchase to ensure it meets your needs prior to booking an electrician for installation.

How do I maintain my lights?

Your globes will occasionally need to be replaced. We usually have stock of all of our globes (unless on back order or discontinued).

How does a customer submit a claim?

What types of claims are covered?

The following shipping & fulfillment mishaps are covered by our policy:

3. Damaged
4. Return to sender

How long does my customer have to submit a claim?

45 days from the order date

How fast will customer inquiries be processed?

Claims are processed by our 24/7 claims management team and are responded to in minutes.

When can customers expect to receive a resolution?

Within 1-4 hours

REFUND POLICY

There’s an issue with my light. Can I get a refund or replacement?

We’re not required to provide a refund or replacement if you change your mind, but you can choose a refund or exchange if an item has a major problem.

This is when the item:

  • Has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying the item if they had known about it
  • Is unsafe
  • Is significantly different from the sample or description
  • Doesn’t do what we said it would, or what you asked for, and this can’t be easily fixed

Alternatively, you can choose to keep the item and we will compensate you for any drop in value.

If the problem is not major, we will repair the item within a reasonable time. If it’s not repaired in a reasonable time, you can choose a refund or replacement.

Please keep you proof of purchase for refunds and returns.

I’ve changed my mind about my custom item. Can I cancel or return it?

We don’t accept change of mind returns on custom-made items. Non-standard, custom-made items and special orders cannot be cancelled after production has been scheduled or after materials have been purchased.

Do you have minimum order requirements?

For some of our custom products, we require minimum orders to cover the cost of production. Please get in touch with the About Space team to enquire about custom products and minimum order requirements.

Colour

The lighting images on this website are either created from our own photographs or are sourced from our suppliers. Please bear in mind that the appearance of colour can change significantly depending on many factors, including ambient lighting conditions during the photography process, as well as the calibration of your computer monitor. While every effort has been made to ensure that they present an accurate and fair visual representation of the actual product in question, they are intended as a guide only and About Space accepts no responsibility for any errors.

Glass

Please note that most glass components are handmade and, therefore, small air bubbles, slight defects and colour variations may naturally occur during the glassblowing process.

Light bulbs

LED bulbs carry a two-year warranty, unless specified otherwise. Regarding all other bulbs, while in some instances we may display information sourced from the manufacturer regarding their projected life expectancy, About Space provides no warranty or guarantee with respect to the actual working lifetime of the bulb.

GLOSSARY

Accent Lighting

Localized and directional lighting used to highlight, focus attention or dramatize a room or outdoor space. As part of a decorating scheme, it is used to spotlight paintings, houseplants and other possessions, or to highlight the texture of a wall, drapery or outside landscaping. Accent lighting requires at least three times as much light on the focal point as the general lighting around it.

Ambient Lighting

Also known as general lighting, ambient lighting provides an area with overall, non-specific illumination. Ambient lighting radiates a comfortable level of brightness, enabling one to see and walk about safely. It can be accomplished with chandeliers, ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures, recessed or track lighting or with outdoor fixtures. A basic form of lighting that replaces sunlight, ambient lighting is fundamental to lighting a home.

Glare

Bright lighting that causes discomfort and impairs good visibility. Possible causes may be light sources that are too bright for the application, or fixtures that may not conceal bulbs sufficiently, among many others.

IC Fixture

This term refers to an Insulated Ceiling Fixture that is a recessed lighting downlight suitable for direct burial in thermal insulation. Called type IC.

Rated Lamp Life

The point in hours where 50% of a lamp type initially started will still be functioning.

Amps

The unit of measurement of electrical current.

Baffle

Part of the fixture that blocks light to prevent glare and control brightness. Baffles may be integral blades, plates or grooves or an accessory. Baffles are often painted black to absorb light.

Base

The end of the lamp that inserts into a lamp socket. The end or ends of a lamp that makes electrical and mounting connections.

Reflector

A light source of incandescent, compact fluorescent or HID source with a built-in reflecting surface, usually a silver or aluminium coating on the bulb.

Volt

Unit of electrical force or pressure. General voltage in Australia, normally 220 volts – 240volts Watt A unit of electrical power.

Wattage

The amount of electricity consumed by a bulb.

Gimbal Lighting

An adjustable ring that holds the PAR or MR lamp by its rim. A gimbal ring track fixture has no housing.
