In Scott's apartment renovation, brought to life by Luke & Sassy Scott in collaboration with Liberty Interiors, the brief extended beyond creating a beautiful kitchen—it was about designing a multi-functional space that could effortlessly transition from everyday cooking and laundry to entertaining, while complementing the home's bold material palette and expressive character.

Layering Light for Everyday Living

A successful kitchen relies on more than a single source of illumination. It requires carefully considered layers of light that support different tasks while contributing to the overall atmosphere of the home.

Working alongside Liberty Interiors, the About Space Residential Lighting Design team developed a lighting scheme that balances functionality with warmth. Rather than relying solely on downlights, the design combines directional track lighting with decorative wall lighting, creating a space that feels both practical and inviting.

Flexible Illumination with Track Lighting

The white track system introduces a clean architectural element while providing exceptional flexibility. Adjustable spotlights can be directed towards benchtops, preparation areas, open shelving and feature joinery, ensuring light is placed precisely where it's needed.

As the kitchen evolves over time, the track system can adapt with it. Spotlights can be repositioned or re-aimed, making it a versatile solution that responds to changing layouts, styling or functional requirements. It's a simple yet highly effective way to create layered task lighting without compromising the clean aesthetic of the space.

A Softer Layer with On-Off Wall Lights

Complementing the directional task lighting, the white On-Off Wall Lights introduce a softer ambient layer that enhances the mood of the kitchen.

Their minimalist form sits quietly within the architecture, washing light gently across surrounding surfaces and adding depth, warmth and visual comfort. Simply glide the shade back and forth to adjust the level of illumination or turn the light off entirely—an intuitive feature that allows the atmosphere to evolve throughout the day. Rather than competing with the vibrant palette and carefully selected finishes, the fittings become part of the overall composition, balancing ambience with refined, understated design.
