In the inner north-eastern pocket of Melbourne lies a residence that redefines what contemporary living can feel like. Rathmines, Fairfield isn’t just another modern home — it’s a Passivhaus designed around the belief that high-performance construction, paired with enduring, high-quality materials, creates homes built to stand the test of time.
Building for High Performance
Designed by BuildHer Collective developer Monique Woolley of @napoleon_developments, Rathmines, Fairfield reflects a new generation of designers shaping the future of residential architecture. Guided by a strong commitment to sustainability, performance and livability, the designer approached the project with a clear ambition: to create a high-performance home that feels deeply human.
Sustainability Built In - Not Added On
From the outset, the design ethos was clear: sustainability shouldn’t be an afterthought - it should govern every decision. The home’s high-performance envelope combines airtight detailing, superior insulation and smart ventilation systems that ensure the interior environment feels comfortable year-round. With thermal integrity at its core, this home stays cool in summer, warm in winter and remains free from dust, smoke and pollen.
Lighting That Enhances A Space
Both 257A and 257B Rathmines use lighting to gently shape the home's interiors, layering softness, structure and sculptural detail to create depth throughout the residences considered spaces.
- The Xola Pendant introduces a sculptural focal point above the kitchen islands, it's thin and unobtrusive profile illuminating the workspace while letting other elements of the space take center stage.
- The Forte Wall Light with Zero Disc in the bedroom offers a warm illumination to the bedside at night, whilst doubling as a clean but stunning point of interest during the day.
- The Leon Ceiling light, understated yet purposeful, provides crisp, even illumination throughout everyday living spaces, reinforcing the home’s clarity and contemporary language.
- The Sava Wall adds softness and depth, casting gentle pools of light that elevate external atmosphere and create a sense of calm.
