About: Werribee

In Werribee, a much-loved family home has been reimagined through a renovation and extension led by Gecsek Design and Evans Building Group—a project that artfully expands both its footprint and its personality. What emerges is a residence of scale, cohesion and deeply considered detail, shaped around the clients’ desire for generous entertaining zones, abundant storage, and interiors with bold character and lasting impact.

Bridging Old and New with Clarity and Care

The design navigates the intersection between the existing home and its contemporary addition with remarkable sensitivity. Rather than creating a stark divide, Gecsek Design employs a visual language that honours traditional forms while introducing a fresh, modern rhythm. Proportion, detailing and repetition become essential tools in unifying eras, ensuring the home feels intentional and cohesive—not assembled in parts, but composed as a whole.

A Palette of Confidence: Colour, Craft and Character

Inside, colour and cabinetry are the driving forces behind the home’s expressive identity. Shaker profiles, thoughtfully echoed throughout the joinery, establish a structured framework that brings order and harmony across rooms. Each space is anchored by hand-stained timber—warm, tactile and grounding—serving as the connective tissue that shapes the home’s visual narrative.

From burgundy to green to deep purple, rich tones are layered with purpose. Every room carries its own energy, yet each remains tethered to the greater story through continuity of form, profile and materiality. This interplay between strong chromatic choices and subtle neutral intervals creates a rhythm that feels confident without dominating—a home filled with bold gestures that never overwhelm.

Lighting as a Sculptural and Atmospheric Tool

Lighting punctuates the interiors with moments of softness, structure and sculptural presence—adding dimensionality to the richly detailed backdrop.

  • The Caroline Double Pendant introduces a refined, modern classicism to entertaining areas, its dual shades balancing elegance with practicality.
  • Along transitional zones and intimate corners, the Forte 12V Wall Light paired with Yosh Opal Glass brings a warm, diffused glow that enhances the home’s tonal richness.
  • The Hector Wall Light, understated yet architectural, provides clean lines and ambient support, complementing the cabinetry’s rhythm and reinforcing the home’s contemporary language.

Each fixture has been selected not only for illumination but for its ability to reinforce proportion, silhouette and mood—supporting the design narrative rather than competing with it.

A Home That Holds Both Grandeur and Intimacy

Despite its generous scale, the Werribee residence remains grounded and personal. Expansive open-plan areas foster connection and effortless entertaining, while distinct rooms offer moments of retreat. The balance between high-impact colour, meticulously crafted joinery and thoughtful lighting allows each space to feel composed, warm and enduring.

This is a home built for a life well-lived—brimming with individuality, yet timeless in its foundations. Gecsek Design and Evans Building Group have delivered a residence that celebrates courage in colour, discipline in detail and the beauty of a unified vision.
