When it comes to luxury cars, presentation is everything. For BYD's designer showroom, creating an ambiance that exuded sophistication and modernity was paramount. That's where our team, in collaboration with the architect M-A-R-S, and electrical contractor All Star Electrical, stepped in to craft lighting that met the unique demands of the brand-new Sydney showroom. 

The Space & Its Use 

BYD's designer car showroom had its own set of demands and constraints that made the lighting design a challenging yet exciting project. The primary goal was to use lighting to highlight the exquisite designer cars in the showroom. The cars were placed on podiums, and it was crucial to ensure they were the focal point of the space. 

The space had to accommodate a range of practical requirements. It was essential to have flexible lighting that could adapt to different scenarios, such as highlighting plans, pictures on the walls, or illuminating the space around TV screens whilst minimising glare.  

The showroom had a walkway that required specialised lighting to guide visitors and accentuate the cars from above. Similarly, the overall design for the space aimed for a cool and modern feel, which required specific colour temperatures and brightness levels (lumens) to achieve the desired refined ambiance. 

Meeting the Demands 

To perfectly craft the elegant and sophisticated space BYD desired, we carefully selected and installed a range of innovative lighting products. 

Custom LED Rings: The 2-meter-wide LED rings above each car served as an exquisite centrepiece. These rings were custom-designed to provide the right amount of light to accentuate the cars while ensuring they looked stunning from every angle.  

Track Lighting: The use of track lighting allowed us to have flexible and adjustable lighting throughout the showroom. This was particularly useful in highlighting features and fixtures in the space that are subject to change over time, creating a dynamic atmosphere and useable space for years to come. 

Over Walkway Lighting: To guide visitors gracefully through the showroom, specialised lighting fixtures were thoughtfully placed along the walkway. This strategic placement not only ensured the safety and convenience of visitors but also created a visually appealing effect. 

Cool Colour Palette: Colour temperature plays a pivotal role in setting the mood and ambiance of a space. For BYD's designer car showroom, the choice of a "cool" colour palette was instrumental in achieving the desired bright and modern atmosphere that harmonised with the elegant cars on display. 

Cool colour temperatures typically fall in the range of 4000K to 6500K on the Kelvin scale. These temperatures exude a crisp, refreshing, and modern feel. In the showroom, this choice of colour temperature not only illuminated the space but also accentuated the cars' features, making them appear even more captivating. 

Delivering Excellence 

Designing and installing lighting for BYD's showroom came with its own set of challenges. However, our team maintained meticulous planning and coordination throughout to ensure the best possible outcome for BYD. 

Our team maintained open and constant communication with all stakeholders, from the builder and designer to the contractors. This ensured that everyone was on the same page and contributed to a collaborative and successful project. Effective teamwork was essential to make the project a reality. Everyone involved was willing to adapt and compromise when necessary, which allowed us to create a lighting design that met the demands of the space and the client's vision.
