About: Chi by McKimm

Designed by McKimm, Chi is a home shaped by intention—an elegant study in balance, movement and calm. Inspired by the principles of Feng Shui, the residence embodies its namesake: Chi, the life force that connects all things. Here, architecture and interior detailing work in quiet harmony, guiding energy gently through the home and creating spaces that feel both grounded and uplifting.

From the moment you enter, the home reveals its philosophy. Soft, sweeping curves replace rigid lines, encouraging a natural flow from one zone to the next. This sense of movement is balanced by a restrained material palette—warm timber, sculpted stone, exquisite brickwork and richly textured finishes—that anchors the home and gives it a sense of permanence. The result is an atmosphere of understated strength, where every element feels considered but never overstated.

Lighting plays a crucial role in reinforcing this balance. Rather than dominating the interiors, each fixture has been selected to complement form, material and mood—enhancing the architecture while allowing the space itself to lead.

In the dining room, the Sputnik Pendant becomes a sculptural focal point. Its clean lines and balanced geometry echo the home’s overarching theme of harmony, while its presence anchors the dining zone within the expansive open-plan layout. By day, it reads as a design feature; by night, it delivers a warm, ambient glow that encourages connection and shared moments around the table.

The kitchen continues this dialogue between form and function. Cannon Ceiling Lights provides even, practical illumination, ensuring the space performs effortlessly for everyday living. Paired with Forte Wall Lights fitted with Smoke Ripple Yosh Glass, the lighting scheme introduces texture and depth. The subtle diffusion of light through the rippled glass softens the space, balancing the kitchen’s robust materiality with a sense of calm and refinement.

At the heart of the home, the open-plan living and entertainment area unfolds seamlessly toward a bespoke pool and private courtyard. Boundaries between inside and out dissolve, allowing natural light, air and energy to circulate freely. This connection to the outdoors is fundamental to the home’s Feng Shui principles—supporting wellbeing and reinforcing the idea of the house as a living, breathing environment rather than a series of enclosed rooms.

More intimate spaces are carefully positioned to provide retreat and sanctuary. In the study, the 2BY4 Round Edge Pendant introduces a quiet architectural presence. Its softened edges mirror the home’s curved forms, while its focused illumination creates an environment conducive to concentration without feeling enclosed or heavy.

The entrance sets the tone for what lies beyond. Alessia Wall Lights with Smoke Glass cast a welcoming, diffused glow, gently guiding movement into the home. Rather than a dramatic statement, the lighting here is intentionally subtle—establishing a sense of arrival that feels calm, balanced and inviting.

In the master suite, the Caterpillar 1 Pendant with Smoke Ripple Yosh Glass adds a layer of softness and intimacy. Suspended thoughtfully within the space, it delivers ambient light that supports rest and relaxation, reinforcing the bedroom’s role as a private retreat. The gentle play of light through textured glass enhances the room’s sense of warmth, creating an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and deeply restorative.

The bathroom continues this refined approach with Alessia Pendants fitted with Frosted Glass. Their diffused illumination complements the sculptural surfaces and tactile materials, ensuring the space feels serene rather than stark. Here, light becomes an essential part of the ritual of daily living—softening transitions and supporting moments of pause.

Throughout Chi, lighting is never an afterthought. Each fitting has been carefully integrated to support the home’s flow, enhancing both functionality and emotional experience. Together, the architecture, materials and lighting create a residence that feels intuitively right—a home where energy moves freely, spaces breathe, and calm is woven into everyday life.

Chi stands as a thoughtful expression of how considered design can shape not just how a home looks, but how it feels to live within—quietly powerful, beautifully balanced, and deeply connected to those who inhabit it.
